How to detox your skin this Easter

Posted By Mariana
The weather is cooling down and the Easter holiday is upon us, which leads us to one thing - overindulgence.

A spike in refined sugar and comfort food can lead your skin to become dull, sluggish and tired. Its likely you have heard about detox diets, that aim to cleanse waste and impurities out of the body and restore energy. Well, this is possible for your skin too.

How exactly does sugar affect the skin?  Refined sugars cause our insulin levels to spike, which in turn triggers an inflammatory response.

Inflammation in the body produces certain enzymes that break down collagen and elastin, leading to a reduction in the firmness and elasticity of the skin. In other words: wrinkles! Chronic inflammation also exacerbates skin conditions such as rosacea and acne, particularly as it suppresses the immune system, leading to a decreased ability to fight off infection.

Too much sugar can also increase the amount of testosterone in the body, which increases oil production and pore size, two of the most common and disliked skin issues.

Here are simple steps to detox your skin over the holiday time and to help restore its natural beauty and radiance.

Step One: Up the water intake

Drinking water flushes toxins from your body, as the kidneys use water to get rid of certain waste products. If you arent drinking enough water, your poor kidneys wont have enough fluid to do their job properly and the body would be holding in toxins instead of expelling them. And here is an important rule of skincare - what you put inside really does affect the outside.

Containing 10g of collagen and 3g of sugar per serving, this refreshingly peachy duo is ripe and ready for sipping!

Vital Proteins Collagen Water - Peach White Tea

BENEFITS:

  • 10g of Collagen: Digested and absorbed by the body quickly for maximum benefits.
  • 3g of Sugar: No artificial flavours, colours or additives. Gluten-free & dairy-free.
  • Ready to Drink: Grab-and-go to make your life just a little bit easier. All of the benefits, on-the-go.

Step Two: Mask the damage

We dont mean with makeup, we will get to that next. A great way to detox the skin is with a face mask to help pull impurities and waste materials out of the skin. Clogged pores and dull skin? This step is for you.

This powerful dry mask formula works to clarify, decongest and brighten the skin. A rich mineral glacial clay and white kaolin clay draw out excess oil and impurities from the skin.

Pure Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) brightens the skin, and a blend of fruit powers and malic acid working together to enzymatically and chemically exfoliate the skin. Shelf-stable probiotics work to enhance your skins microbiome, helping to reduce redness and acne formation.

Step Three: Take a break from makeup

Although it may be tempting to cover any evidence of a sugar blowout, your skin needs to breathe. Makeup will only work to clog your pores and irritate the skin further. Give your skin a break, and rock the au-naturel bare face whenever you can.

The Original MakeUp Eraser is a premium, patented, polyester cloth made up of millions of tiny hair-like fibres that work together to create a "suction" for all dirt, makeup, & oil in your pores.

Step Four: Double Cleanse

It may sound silly at first but stick with us. The first cleanse will target and help remove makeup products from the day - while the second cleanse (and most vital) allows your cleanser to reach and clean deep into the pores.

This non-stripping Alpha Beta powered cleanser removes all traces of dirt, oil, and makeup, and is safe for use around the eyes. Its deep cleansing action creates a rich, cushiony lather, ensuring skin feels soft and balanced.

Step Five: Try to cut out refined sugar

Processed foods, dairy and refined sugar all contribute to the clogging of pores and stressed skin. We believe you deserve to treat and enjoy yourself this Easter, so why not try swapping the classic dairy milk for a healthy alternative.

Next time you have a sweet tooth or a hunger pang that just won't quit enjoy a chocolatey Skinnychew. With less than 20 calories per chew and a high source of inulin fibre in every serving these irresistible gluten-free chews are satisfying, delicious and convenient!

Step Six: Sleep

Believe it or not, a lack of sleep is a legitimate cause for pimples. Stress and tiredness lift the natural testosterone and cortisol levels in the body, both of which are causes of dreaded acne. So make sure you are taking time to relax and get some sweet sweet shut-eye. Turns out getting your beauty sleep is a legitimate thing, and we aren't complaining.
