Bisabolol: The healing Ingredient for your skin

Posted By Mariana

Have you ever seen the word Bisabolol on a product label and wondered what it was?
Bisabolol is a soothing agent and exists in two structural forms in nature: beta and alpha.

Beta-bisabolol is mostly used as a flavouring agent. Alpha-bisabolol is what we usually refer to as simply Bisabolol and what we use in cosmetics and personal care products. It is commonly associated with German chamomile, but there are various other plant sources of Bisabolol and can also be derived synthetically, but the man-made version contains about one-half of the active substance as compared to natural Bisabolol.

Studies have shown that bisabolol help to soothe irritated skin, acts as a potent antioxidant, protecting the skin from free radical damage, and helps to improve the visible signs of aging. Bisabolol may also have anti-microbial properties and has been used to lighten the skin.

It is a commonly used ingredient in many products, including moisturizers, cleansers, and makeup. Research also shows it might have some skin-brightening properties. In fact, Bisabolol has been used for hundreds of years in cosmetics because of its skin healing properties.

     1. Soothes inflammation

Having proven anti-inflammatory properties, Bisabolol helps in the treatment of acne, rashes, rosacea, psoriasis, and similar conditions associated
with frequent skin irritations. It has also been shown that Bisabolol calms the skin after exposure to UV rays, and tones down sunburns and redness.
The perfect ingredient for those with sensitive skin.

    2. Stimulates skins healing
Bisabolol is a well-known skin healer, it can speed up the healing process even more, which makes it great for treating minor scars, spots from
         healed blemishes.

     3. Moisturizes in depth
Bisabolol is rich in panthenol, an excellent natural humectant. Panthenol draws moisture from the air to your skin, and holds onto it, not letting your
skin dry out. Since Bisabolol penetrates deep into the skin, it rejuvenates the skin from within and helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

     4. Prevents collagen breakdown
Bisabolol inhibits the enzymes in the skin that are responsible for collagen breakdown, and at the same time, it stimulates collagen production.
